Old grudges, buried affairs and a few home truths come out with the good scotch, and Stephen's carefully maintained grumpiness starts to crack open into something far more painful, and far funnier, than anyone bargained for. Palin's first stage play proves he can do more than silly walks. Underneath the razor-sharp one-liners and beautifully observed family bickering is a genuinely moving story about a man terrified of being loved and even more terrified of admitting it. It's Fawlty Towers with a heart, Abigail's Party with better radishes, and unmistakably, gloriously Palin: warm, absurd and quietly devastating all at once.
